Robert Lewandowski receives ‘Player of the Year’ Award by Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo undoubtedly has been the most beloved football player because of the dedicated sportsmanship he displays on the field. The five-time Ballon d’Or Award winner has reportedly given away his Globe Soccer Player of the Year award to the German player Robert Lewandowski. Ronaldo made this heartfelt gesture because he considers Robert to be much more deserving.

The ceremony was held in Dubai on Sunday in the presence of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski. Piping out the most beloved and renowned players such as Lionel Messi and others, the CR7 player won the ‘Player of the Century’ award.

Instead of accepting the coveted honor, the Portuguese player—Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes decided to decline the award. They chose to do this because they thought Robert Lewandowski was a much deserving candidate as he has a much phenomenal year for his club.

The official statement by 35-year-old

Cristiano motivationally put forth, “For 20 consecutive years I have played and scored as a professional, I didn’t know there was another record to beat. It’s a pleasure to hear about the records, I have achieved all this but without my teammates, without a great team, I would not have achieved these records. It is an exceptional achievement. It gives me the motivation to move forward.”

Ronaldo—who won the ‘Player of the Century’—declared this to be an exceptional and motivational honor. This is yet another feather in Ronaldo’s cap in his eminent career.

Ronaldo winning hearts all over again

There has been a controversy as the Italian publication Tuttosport, very affirmatively declared that the Portuguese and his agent believe he only won the award in the public vote due to his immense popularity. If considered this to be true, Ronaldo has indisputably won over the hearts of many people with this incredible gesture of giving away the award to the more deserving Robert Lewandowski.
