Due to the Lebanese Civil War, he completed his tertiary education in the United States, obtaining a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Oklahoma State University. Before his appointment as President of the American University of Malta, Dr. Najjar served as the Minister of Public Works and Transport in the Lebanese Government. About the American University of Malta

The American University of Malta is a private, modern university located in Cospicua, Malta. It was officially announced in 2015 and established in September 2016. The campus consists of three main sites, two of which are situated in Dock 1 at Cospicua and have significant historical heritage. The university’s first main campus is known as the “British Building,” which was rehabilitated to serve the current age while maintaining its historic elements. The campus also includes two other sites, one in Cospicua and one in Smart City, with plans for expansion and hosting more students.

The university is officially accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority and offers nine undergraduate programs and six graduate programs in various fields, including accounting, business administration, engineering, graphic design, and computer science.

The American University of Malta has taken several initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion on campus, including hosting students from over 35 different nationalities and organizing social events and sports activities to facilitate interaction among students and faculty members.
